Blood Pressure Medications

if you have high blood pressure you're

going to be on medications and sometimes

more than one the old time you blood

pressure medicines are the diuretics

that's the first ones we ever had and

those are great they wash out sodium and

flew it out of your system and that

helps tend to reduce blood pressure

there are a group of drugs called the

ACE inhibitors angiotensin converting

enzyme inhibitors these are wonderful

drugs they reduce blood pressure but

they also stabilize arteries they

stabilize plaque inside the arteries

preventing heart attacks and strokes

they help your kidneys function better

there are wonderful drugs and my

patients I'm looking for a good reason

to use that drove over some of the old

tiny drugs that didn't do all that other

good stuff problem is with ace

inhibitors sometimes they'll give you a

tickly cough that's constant and chronic

and in that case you can move over to

what's called an ARB angiotensin

receptor blocker and that these drugs

work like the ACE inhibitors with all

the good benefits there's calcium

blockers there are beta blockers these

tend to slow your heart rate down and

can make it kind of tired so see your

doctor find out exactly what kind of

blood pressure medication would be

working best for you and your metabolism

and look at the ACE inhibitors they're

good ones
