How soon after stopping birth control can a woman get pregnant?

We have traditionally recommended

waiting for a month or two after completing birth control

pills to let the lining of the uterus become a little bit more

thickened, to accept a pregnancy.

I will be honest with you, there's not a lot of good data

out there about that traditional response.

Patients are often worried that birth control pills will

keep them from getting pregnant months

after that they have come off of them,

and that just is not the case.

We all know in practice that even

a missed pill or two in the middle of a cycle

can result in a pregnancy.
